Combating Infection Zombie Types
Each map in Advanced Warfare builds upon Outbreak and its zombie variants. All zombies from Outbreak are present on the map. Ambush rounds are simplified to only Host Zombie rounds, happening on round 7 then every round ending with 4 (14, 24, 34, etc.). Every three to four normal rounds will include Security Dogs as part of the round. They spawn over intervals of the round, usually based on how many zombies have spawned in so far.
Infection has several zombies added to the formula, changing certain variants you can see each round. While every round has EMZs at some point, the other one to two variants can be Exploders, Spikers, Oozers, and Meatbags. In higher rounds, the rounds will try to stick to this pattern with exclusive round zombie types. These variants can make camping certain areas and with certain equipment much more difficult. Nanos in several corners can be shutdown by any of these variants, so many strategies have been refined to specific spots with stronger survival. Movement around these zombies can add another complex layer to the already powerful EMZs. This map will begin to show the more survival focused experience, as more zombies can end your game in mere seconds.
Spiker Zombies
Spiker Zombies are exo zombies that shoot spikes all around them. They can shoot spikes from various interactions, especially with the player. This is equivalent to a regular hit from a zombie, but they can stack up very quickly. Their main trigger is direct damage form any source. In some instances of exo movement detected can be a trigger as well.
When Infected, spikes can reduce the player's timer by 4 seconds.
Oozer Zombies
Oozer Zombies will drop pools of acid occasionally as they walk around. Being purely random, these acid pools can deal considerable damage, equivalent to two hits. Just running over two acid pools can put you on the brink of death. In small numbers, these zombies are fairly tame, but in larger numbers, the acid pools can add up quickly. In tight spaces, like the Hoard More or Sewer hallways can cover major parts of the room, or restrict you from backtracking. In higher rounds, this becomes very common and have to block off portions of rooms to avoid immediate downs.
When Infected, acid pools can reduce the player's timer by 6 seconds.
Meatbags (Armored Zombies)
Meatbags are armored exo zombies with less benefits. Armored zombies are a mix of normal zombies with some exo movement capabilities, like mantling high jumps or propelling forward when hitting the player. They are not known to jump over the horde or use other common exo movements. They have a protective helmet as well, that can be shot off to deal regular headshot damage. Outside of this, they can be treated as exo zombies with much more health. This health change is more noticable when using traps, as Meatbags can withstand almost three times as much damage on their torso.
Goliaths
Goliath zombies appear on round 10 and every round ending with 9 (19, 29, 39, etc.), even if there is a toxic zone activating too. Goliath zombies are strongly-resistent mini-boss that can focuses on the closest player, smacking any zombies in between. These zombies that are hit are forcibly respawned at full health, and do not count towards the round. This zombie will attempt to seek you out to melee you with a hit equivalent to two hits. When a player is nearby, they will slam the ground with their foot every 30 seconds roughly, sending out an EMP effect with considerable range. If the player is separated from the Goliath, they can shoot heat-seeking missiles at the player (or to multiple players in range), which EMP upon impact with the player or surface. While most missiles will be shot when you're airborne, it is possible to jump over a missile, most cna be low to the ground, usually high enough where a well timed jump can clear some missiles (this is easier to perform and practice on Descent's Oz fight).
When Infected, melee attacks on the player can reduce the timer by 10 seconds. Missiles can reduce the player's timer by 3 seconds.
